Breadcrumbs are a simple tool to show a user’s position on a website or application. They can be a graphical representation as well as text links to help users navigate back.
Breadcrumbs have been around since the 1990s and were mainly used in traditional personal computers with only one window displaying content from the device being used. This is why breadcrumbs were originally always displayed as text links just below or above the current screen that says “Previous Page” and “Next Page” with periods between them for each page visited, often including an icon representing the type of graphical interface being used.
